Hospital Board Self-Assessment Program: Strengthen Governance and Drive Board Excellence
Effective governance is the foundation of exceptional health care. The Hospital Board Self-Assessment Program helps Iowa hospitals evaluate their board performance, identify areas for improvement, and reinforce leadership impact through a structured, customizable tool.
Two-Part Evaluation for Comprehensive Insight
1. Board Assessment
This portion prompts board members to evaluate overall governance performance. The survey is fully customizable; hospitals can remove irrelevant questions and add up to three custom items per section to align with their governance goals.
Benchmarking options let boards compare their results by Medicare classification (Critical Access, Rural, Rural Referral, or Urban) or nationally, providing meaningful context for performance measurement.
2. Individual Self-Assessment
Board members also assess their contributions, offering insights into engagement and effectiveness. While benchmarking is not included in this section, weighted averages reveal how board members collectively perceive their roles, encouraging personal growth and transparency.
Why Participate Annually?
Annual participation promotes continuous improvement and alignment with best practices in hospital governance. The results support board development, strengthen strategic planning, and foster a culture of accountability.
